Centennial Celebration
1913-2013
Romanian immigrants arriving in Saint Paul in the early 1900’s would look for other Romanian immigrants and then try to settle near them. This formed a small but strong community on Rice Street and in this area just north of downtown St. Paul.
In 1910 “Augustina” a benefit society, was formed. On May 18,1913, the society voted to establish an Orthodox Parish and to also build a church. The lot was purchased on November 9,1913 and just eight months later, on June 14, 1914, the cornerstone was laid. After only four months, the completed church now stood on the corner of Woodbridge and Atwater Streets. Fr. Podea blessed the church on October 15, 1914.
