FEBRUARY 15 MEETING:

From Bukovina to the Canadian Prairie:
The Story of Gheorghe Staruiala and Efrosina Iliesi

RGS member Sharon Schulz will share her family history research story at our upcoming February 15, 2014 meeting at 1:00 p.m. at 1185 North Concord Street in South St. Paul, Minnesota.

Gheorghe Staruiala and Efrosina Iliesi

Sharon Schulz’s ancestors Gheorghe Staruiala and Efrosina Iliesi came from Bukovina to Canada in the early 1900s. Sharon will explain her research process and share what she has learned about her ancestors along the way. Sharon is a Canadian citizen and a permanent resident of the U.S. She first came to Minnesota in 1964 to Minnesota to attend Concordia College in St. Paul, (now Concordia University) and recently retired . Sharon says, “I have finally had some time to pursue a long interest in and fascination with genealogy. I have been very fortunate to discover the Romanian Genealogy Society, and hope to make progress in discovering more about my Romanian ancestors.”

RGS Annual Meeting – November 16, 2013

Members and guests are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Romanian Genealogy Society on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m.  After a brief business meeting and election of officers, Raluca Octav and Bogdan Filipescu will present, “A Concentrated History of Transylvania.” The meeting will be held at the offices and library of the Minnesota Genealogical Society in Room 218, 1185 North Concord Street, in South St. Paul, Minnesota. Members will receive a meeting notice and ballot information by mail.

Free Romanian translation services are provided at Noon, only with advance reservations. RGS membership dues are $20 per calendar year (January through December).

Our quarterly newsletter, Romanian Roots, Volume 2, Number 2 was recently mailed to dues-paying members.
